Call for PITCHES
We pay writers $150 to write around 350 words, $200 for anything above 500 words, and will pay $150 for accepted visuals.
Indie music and fried chicken… two things you can make in your kitchen. Two things you can enjoy alone or in a stadium. Two things that are both instantly recognizable in any form and yet appear in infinite variations. Indie music and fried chicken are both nourishment, both potentially lethal. They can both be good, great even. They can both be terrible… indie music more than fried chicken. Every culture has a version of indie music and every culture has a version of fried chicken.
INDIE MUSIC AND FRIED CHICKEN (the zine) is a new zine interested in exploring the intersection of food and music as it pertains to Brooklyn, NY and NYC at large. Pitch us a story, essay, or poem (fiction or non-fiction) that somehow incorporates fried chicken or indie music or BOTH. Tell us about your aversion to the consumption of chicken, submit a chicken stock recipe along with a two-and-a-half-hour playlist to listen to while it simmers (we’ll generate a QR code that brings readers to the playlist), or write about a chicken recipe from your youth and the songs or album you associate with it. Submit photos or other visuals of chicken or concerts in NYC. OR… please... come up with a better idea and pitch that to us instead! Pre-written pieces also welcome—the theme is loose and strict adherence is not necessary.
Things to note for your pitch due by August 15th at midnight:
Submit an idea, a synopsis, an opening paragraph, or any visuals to pitches@beholdcrisis.com
Include a 2-3 sentence bio with your pitch
If we think your idea is good, we will pay you to write the piece, though we cannot guarantee that the piece will be published.
Expect a response within two weeks of your submission on whether or not we’d like to pay you to write the full piece
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at pitches@beholdcrisis.com
